[21:22] Maris moves among his troops as he ensures that they are ready for the coming campaign against the tainted solar essences [21:22] * Cicada tries to make Sanyet as comfortable as possible after taking him back to their own tent. But is a little frightened by his adversion from her. Then she sleeps the entire night away like a rock if not summoned to a meeting or such. [21:22] * Tei left the dead to the Islanders to take care of after about 30 mins, then slept an hour or so [21:23] * Jynaru heads out to scream at the Solars. If he survives, will take nap, eat dinner with wives. [21:25] It's a grey day. ash from the rubble of the broken wall floats into the air and by the time you leave your little meetings, everything is covered with a fine layer of soot. [21:25] * Vanal wraps up a quick inspection with the troops, and goes to join Jyn with the Solars [21:25] great clouds of it blots out the sun, giving everything a rather subdued tone; if you didn't know better, you'd say it is a shadowland. [21:26] The dead are being cared for in the center of the camp, but everywhere there are litters of wounded covered with cloth pavillions. [21:26] "Goddamn...I don't think I've EVER seen this much destruction" [21:26] white when it is first unwrapped, the soot generally makes it a light grey in but a few minutes. [21:27] Even the ground is tainted; but reflection will tell you that nothing has grown here for a very long time, save clumps of ragweed and mossy grass. [21:27] "Next one will be worse. Far worse." [21:27] "I'll bet. Think this was all us, or our resident demon-boys ?" [21:28] it almost seems like a giant bog, mixed with clay and a few, stunted trees. [21:28] "Probably more the years of sorcerous battle, I'd say." [21:29] "Mela. And they wonder why I *hate* sorcery..." [21:29] You make your way through the throngs of barbarians celebrating the victory in their small, disperate groups. Though Maris has united them, they still seem to keep to themselves, and their numbers are by far leaning towards men than woman. [21:30] "Think about it. Stuff like that freaky essence thing, meteors, day in and day out. Can't be easy on the landscape. Normally less grey, admittedly." [21:30] And everywhere, you feel spirits moving outside of the spirit world, bound by maris' alliances to tend to the armies. [21:30] * Vanal takes a drag off his cigarette [21:31] "And we're setting these folks loose on the world...what the HELL are we *doing* ?" [21:32] "Trying to keep ourselves alive. Trying to keep the worse Anathema from busting loose with big bad demon daddy as well." [21:32] * Vanal sighs [21:32] "LEsser of two evils. Never feels that way." [21:33] Vanal and Jynaru make their way to the focus of the camp; though maris has chosen to make his camp among his people, the solars have set to rising a watchtower, and essence sprays into the sky like a fountain of golden light as they work their rituals. surrounding the central spire, several small buildings and a wall have already been erected. it is here that the solars have made their new homes, until the army is ready to move again. [21:33] Surrounding the main circle are hundreds of smaller brilliant white tents, magically kept clean from the grey dust falling from the sky. [21:34] you make your way through this tent villiage, so starkly different from the animal-skin and wooden huts the barbarians hastily erected. [21:34] and come to a large gate, sitting wide open, though already guards stand on it's peak [21:35] * Vanal looks at the tends [21:35] "Amazing, isn't it? Fighting a war, and they've still got juice left to keep their tents clean." [21:35] "Damn arrogant, if you ask me." [21:35] they're big enough for maybe one or two person to sit in comfortably, and they are clearly summoned through sorcery, a lesser spell of the one they used to create maris' castle of cloth [21:36] "Of course it is. Did you expect differently from their kind?" [21:36] "Of course not...." [21:36] * Vanal sighs "I've been here too long, I'm starting to prefer the huts." [21:37] * Jynaru waves to the guards as they pass through the gates. [21:37] you note that the barbarians do not seem willing to enter this other village, and you haven't seen one of them since you crossed the imaginary line between them [21:37] within the gates you see that makeshift stables have been set up, horses are being shod, and armor is being repaired [21:39] (LR) "This place gives the jaggies." [21:39] the makeshift forge seems to have no problem adding to the smoke [21:40] (LR) "Just think, Vanal. We should be out of here in four and a half months." [21:40] (LR) "Yeah, yeah, I know. [21:44] * Cicada is awoken sometime during the night by Sanyet turning back towards her, embracing her in her sleep and muttering something about "Just the fastest horse in Creation..." and he is answered with ".. Just the goddess of a swamp..." [21:44] * Jynaru halts at the central thingie and waits for the guards to usher them into the general's office. [21:44] * Tala goes about her business aiding the wounded [21:44] * Cicada and sanyet then sleep it out in each others arms. [21:45] * Tei dreams of bonfires and dragons [21:45] the guards wait at attention until they find out where the general is, and then brings you to one of the outside rings. You see several animals flaring around the central spire, and realize that they must be doing some kind of communal ritual to summon this thing [21:45] * Vanal raises an eyebrow [21:46] "Like I said, fighting a war, and got juice left over. And the next place is going to be twice as bad." [21:47] "We'll late THEM do the brunt." [21:47] *let [21:48] * Jynaru scans through the animas and chuckles. "Haven't been this close to this many anywhere but my worst nightmares. Missing the pink elephants, of course." [21:48] quickly you are ushered into the general's office, who is at a large table with an enterouge of other men and woman surrounding it; some clearly solars, by their extravagant clothing and ignoring of the need of armor; some exhausted scouts, grizzled warriors, and a handful of officials, making notes and holding straight edges [21:49] * Vanal stands and adjusts his armor [21:49] one man, wearing a wreath of twisted gold around his head, notices you come in, and smiles as one of the guards whisper smoething in his ear [21:49] * Jynaru brushes the ash off the shoulders of the winter camo. [21:50] he nods to his companion, and walks towards you bowing slightly, his sunbleached golden robes looking as if they have never seen a speck of dust in their life [21:50] "Jynaru. Vanal. I would like to congratulate you on a job well done." [21:50] "Thank my men, they did the bulk of the fighting. I just pointed them in the right direction." [21:51] He smiles, and offers to get you something to drink [21:51] * Jynaru bows in return. "Let us hope the next phase goes as easily." [21:51] or maybe a chair [21:51] He nods knowledgeably, and agrees, saying [21:51] * Vanal returns the bow as well [21:51] Chair and drink good. Non-alcoholic. Figured I'd step in, ask some strategy questions, clear some things up." [21:53] two large stools are brought in, one high for jynaru, one low for vanal. Both have backs, and are very comfortable. They provide two cups of some flavorful liquid that they assure you is not alcoholic, despite the bine [21:53] *bite [21:53] "It helps to have both halves of your army on the same page." [21:53] * Vanal sniffs the drink before taking a tiny sip [21:54] he nods wisely. "Of course, I am only too happy to describe for you the plans. The scribes are currently preparing the final stages of our advance, but I can at least give you the general idea." [21:55] * Jynaru raises the glass to eye level and turns it slowly, watching the light. "That would be excellent." [21:55] * Retrieving #pvpexaltedrp info... [21:55] "Can we expect an assault, or a seige ?" [21:56] somebody shouts up from the table in old realm, and he looks back quickly before answering. "It is more of a seige at the moment, though there will have to be an assualt. They are completely self sufficient upon their mountain, so normal seige tactics do not really apply." [21:57] "Will two days will be enough for your men to recover, Lord Vanal?" [21:57] "They'll be ready." [21:59] He nods to the scribe at the table and continues. "We hope to be able to drive them out with sorcery, though we have no idea how successful that will be. If worst comes to worst, we will summon what help and enchantments we can and make an assualt of the mountain." [21:59] "How many men do you have left ? [22:00] "Perhaps 1,500 men. Another 5,000 once we have the mountain under seige [22:00] "I see. and your estimation of the enemy forces ?" [22:02] "We have the guidance of the unconquered sun, and the blooded, a significant advantage that our enemies do not have." [22:03] "There are five approaches up the mountain, each leading to a heavily fortified city. Assualt plans currently consist of harrassing these cities long enough to cut one off from the others and destroy everything inside." [22:03] (LR) "Oh, *that's* reassuring" [22:03] * Jynaru nods. [22:03] he smiles understandingly. [22:04] "We will have to do this three times to attain the peak, but even if we destroy the manse there is no garuntee that our brothers will be returned to us." [22:04] * Jynaru smiles. "One of our number is working on something that may help out with that. She encountered some sort of chemical or drug during the fight." [22:05] He seems interested. "On one of the tainted solars? Perhaps some portion could be provided to our researchers?" [22:06] * Jynaru shrugs. "I imagine it all depends on how long it lasts inside a dead body. I'm not the expert on it, but I'll be sure to get back to you on that. [22:07] "I'm assuming you're planning to use my men at the forefront of these assaults ?" [22:07] He nods understandingly, and is about to say something when he is interrupted. [22:07] One of the woman, another solar looks up. Like him, she wears a wreath of living orichlum on her head. "General, the plans are complete. Are these two the couriers to bring it to King Maris?" [22:08] "*Courier* ?" [22:08] * Jynaru raises an eyebrow. [22:08] He nods. "This is Ledaal Jynaru, leader of the blooded strike force earlier today, and this, is Cathak Vanal, Maris' general." [22:08] * Vanal looks decidedly displeased at being referred to as a *courier' [22:09] "Ah", she smiles, and nods to you slightly. "Congratulations on your work, gentlmen. It was very well done." [22:09] "Thank you. One question : What if they counter-attack ?" [22:09] "Benefit of years of practice." [22:10] "Or bushwhack us whilst marchign in column ?" [22:10] She smiles as she walks towards you, a large scroll bound with a jade cloth in her hand. She offers it to Vanal, smiling slightly at his figure. [22:11] * Vanal takes the scroll "Thank you." [22:11] * Vanal gives a slight bow [22:11] "We will merely have to move carefully; that is always an issue when invading an enemies' territory." [22:11] (Oh yeah, she digs you. Go for it!) [22:12] "General, may I escort these two back to King Maris?" [22:12] "It's less the column attack I have a potential issue with, it's the risk of a counter-attack." [22:12] She nods, understandingly. [22:12] "I trust you've come up with a plan for that contingency ?" [22:12] "I'm afraid I have just a few more questions, just to prevent future misunderstanding." [22:13] "Of cousre. These plans call for two rings to surround the mountain; one directed towards attacks from the mountain, one from any force they may be able to sneak around us through sorcery. [22:14] * Vanal raises an eyebrow [22:14] "If they should be foolish enough to make a direct attack, the reinforements we will have made to our position will ensure that they are subsequently mowed down. [22:15] "Our magic should otherwise be their match." [22:15] "I hope so. Can't say as magic is my forte." [22:15] "First off, I assume due to my role in the next phase, the unit previously under my command will be absorbed into the main army?" [22:16] She nods. "They will be kept as a seperate strike force. Unlike the realm, our Dragon Blooded are not trained purely for fighting, so we hope to remedy that through careful training." [22:17] "Perhaps I could convince you and your companions to train them? No doubt the New Realm has made many advances in the last several hundred years. [22:17] .me blinks [22:17] * Vanal blinks [22:17] *aw FRELL...* [22:18] She smiles, and takes Vanal's arm. [22:18] "Come, let us deliver these plans to maris." [22:18] "An interesting concept." [22:18] "It would do no good to discuss it without him!" [22:18] "Next, we recovered several suits of orichalcum superheavy plate. How long until those can be repaired and put into use, and would it be possible to requisition a suit for myself?" [22:18] * Vanal blinks some more, and suddenly looks decidedly nervous [22:19] "Um, er...yeah...sure, good idea." [22:20] the general nods consideringly. "We'll have to ensure that there is no remaining taint on the armor, but if you are interested in armor, i'm sure a suitable jade exhange could be arranged for...?" [22:20] * Vanal blinks "Don't look at me, jyn. I'm quite happy with my lamellar and Eleanor." [22:20] * Jynaru smiles. "I suppose so. I'll talk to one of the armorers about some modifications." [22:21] He nods. [22:21] "I'll have someone deliver the suits that remain. Under what principles do those Essence cannon operate?" [22:23] "I got a chance to use one, and I'm curious." [22:23] "That is a science that took many centuries to develop. Perhaps when we return to the Eight Cities you can enroll for the proper courses?" [22:24] "I was afraid it was complicated. The last question is a rather simple one. Where the hell was my sorcerous support?" [22:25] He shrugs. "We were observing the event. It did not seem worthwhile to detract from destroying the fallen army. You handled the matter quite well, I believe." [22:26] He looks busy. "If there is nothing else, I will leave Midnight Orchird to answer any further questions you may have on the issue." [22:26] "With 40% casualties." [22:28] He nods. "However, that was not the result of sorcery. Nothing we could have done would have alliviated your losses. I'm afraid that we had no choice but to expect such losses, even in a surprise attack. They are our brethern, twisted as we are, and we can but sigh and accept that our blades are so sharp." [22:29] After helping with the wounded for several hours Tala goes off in private to train and meditate.
