[22:10] "We will find better footing inland, but we will not go far. There are plenty of paths near the shore. he then starts off at a light jog to the interior of the island. [22:16] * Tabius_C is breathing heavily and enjoys the break. [22:16] * Cicada makes a note of the terrain and spending a mote (personal) to turn her outfit into her sneak suit and in an appropriate camoflage scheme. [22:17] * Tabius_C notices Cicada's change of appearal and imitates it perfectly by spending a mote himself. [22:17] * Tei is used to walking long distance, though not at these speeds. [22:18] * Tei sits down to reserve his stamina [22:18] Running Hare stares at cicada as her clothes change around her, and then Tabius as well.. but Kimyee's sudden surprised squeeking from inside Cicada's shirt makes him nearly fall over. "Madam.. there's something in your.." [22:18] (this outfit covers more (don't cry, please) but much more practical. Think combat fatigues or the ninja pajamas, with tool belts and stuff) [22:18] * Tabius_C chuckles a little bit, "Sorry to have startled you." [22:19] * Cicada lets the two little criters out for air, and to have a few extra eyes and ears available. [22:19] (*ie Tabius and Cicada's standard jungle warfare infilteration get ups :-) [22:20] The guide shakes his head quickly, then regains his seating. [22:20] He cannot seem to stop staring at the two creatures, and sips at a coconut from his bag [22:21] Kinyee and puuhda share a look, but then quickly jump into the trees for a quick chatter. [22:21] "I am not sure I can keep up this pace, but I will certainly try." [22:22] * Cicada will make taking to the treetops and keep watch standard practice for the trip. Tabius can practice his nativeish with Running Hare. [22:22] * Cicada leaps to a treetop. [22:22] (also get her away from Tei and Tabius, neat eh?) [22:22] [7 dice, 1 sux, good 'nuff] [22:23] cicada, you look over the forest, seeing the trail continue for a good ways... about five miles in the distance, you see a red scar cutting through the forest (and the trail, at one point), one end running towards the mountain, the other towards the sea. [22:24] * Tabius_C watch's Cicada go up the tree remembering fonder times in the past when they worked so well together. [22:25] "Do we wait for her to come down, or just keep going?" [22:26] the guide looks at Tabius questioningly [22:27] [remember he doesn't speak high realm [22:27] [Well I was talking to tabs not the guide] [22:28] [ok] [22:28] * Cicada jumps down, landing in a perfect crouch. Then explains the path ahead. [22:28] "Thank you Cicada, your training tells." [22:29] the guide starts packing away the coconut again] [22:29] "I think I have my wind back" in native tongue "Ready to go Running Hair?" [22:29] "Did you see any smoke?" [22:29] "Or bright lights?" [22:30] "No, none of that." [22:31] * Tabius_C translates for Tei. [22:31] The guide nods contentedly, then stands [22:31] "Good. Lets be going then." [22:31] * Cicada is ready to set out again, at the same pace as before. [22:31] * Tabius_C picks up the stuff he is to carry and gets ready to jog some more. [22:32] * Tei is ready to move out [22:33] Running Hare sets off again down the trail, at the same pace he was going at last time [22:33] * Cicada is with Running Hare on point again. [22:34] Two hours later, Running Hare abruptly brings you to a stop. He holds up his hand, pointing at a tree along the trailside that has been tied up with a rope [22:34] "The fireline is just past this next bend. Be ready to run if you see anything" [22:34] * Tabius_C gets ready and rather paraniod. [22:34] * Cicada nods. [22:34] * Tei nods [22:35] [ps. I assume that we automatically translate to Tei and back.] [22:35] He unties the bundle from his spear and slowly advances around the corner. [22:35] [ok. Occasionally I will make you say you do, though] [22:35] * Cicada goes with Running hare. [22:36] * Tei draws one blade [22:36] As you turn the corner, you see the path continue, and then the trees along the path start being burnt. [22:37] Looking farther down the path, it seems to intersect with another trail... the grass seems to be a dark, reddish brown. Eeerily close to the color of dried blood. [22:37] * Tabius_C follows close behind Cicada out of habit and has his senses tuned way up. [22:37] "So this is where one of the beams of fire passes through..." [22:37] The second trail is about two yards in width, and after that the trail resumes [22:37] the burning extends for a little ways, and then ends. [22:38] "Lets move over in sequence, one by one. Running Hare, do you know the timing of the flames?" [22:38] "Yes. They are easily travelled and extend all the way into the island. But, unfortuantely, that means that many things besides us use them. [22:38] * Tei draws the other blade [22:39] "The flames only occur twice a day. Once, inwards to the mountain, as the sun touches the sea. And once as it dissapears below the horizon, and the Firesharks return to the Guardstones. [22:39] "So we cross it quickly and then get away from it." [22:39] He nods quickly, and then advances, giving a careful look inwards towards the island, and then back towards the sea [22:39] He waves for you to follow, and quickly crosses the gap [22:39] * Tabius_C translates for Tei. [22:40] * Tei follows along as best he can [22:40] * Tabius_C follows quickly behind Cicada after she heads out. [22:40] * Cicada waves the next over. Keeping watch. [22:41] A quick glance either way will show you that it is, literally, a clear line of sight all the way across the island, until a large hill rises up before the central peak. [22:41] * Cicada then runs last. [22:41] In the very center of the path, there is a thin red line about a inch wide and a inch deep. [22:51] * Cicada jumps down when the break is over and asks Running Hare about the rock. [22:51] "We should arrive at a river soon. There will be a rope bridge to cross it." [22:52] "The rock is merely a cliffside. It is behind it that the Great Kyack lies." [22:52] * Tabius_C translates. [22:54] * Cicada nods. [22:54] "Great Kyack? did I miss something?" [22:54] * Cicada takes a quick sip of her water, then gets ready to set out again. [22:55] * Tabius_C is ready again, and definitaly not looking forward to it. [22:56] * Tei is ready to trudge along once more into the unknown [22:56] Okay. A few minutes later you break out of the forest into a great plain. It extends far to the north, the guide obviously using the single peak as a guiding point, as it stays in the same place throught this leg of the journey. [22:57] It is warmer here, outside of the cool damp of the forest, but the trail is just as well packed as it was within the forest. [22:58] Along your line of sight to the peak, there is a large lake of some sort, and you see a glittering river running from it inlands, and another sprouting off closer to you and running to the sea.
